Jill Linehan, store manager of the Lowe’s in Mesa, Arizona, was feeling defeated.
Her summer wedding plans were cancelled due to COVID-19 and a backyard gathering – the popular Plan B for couples during this unprecedented time – just didn’t seem like an attractive option.
“My mom suggested we do a backyard wedding and I looked out at our backyard and was like, ‘I don’t think so,’” Linehan recalled. “I was discouraged and wasn’t sure what we were going to do.”
Then Linehan happened to come across Lowe’s DIY outdoor wedding series in partnership with celebrity designer Bobby Berk. And that’s when her outlook changed.
“I checked it out and did a complete 180,” Linehan said. “I took bits and pieces of each collection and showed my fiancé and said, ‘We can do this.’
“There was just something about the series and seeing the pictures and how those weddings turned out made me think I could do it too. And I could do it all from the store that I work at!”
Her wedding solution was literally right under her nose and in the aisles at Lowe’s.
With $1,000 as their budget, Linehan and her fiancé created a beautiful wedding in their backyard.
Their guests were stunned.
“They were blown away. They kept asking me who came and set this up for us. ‘Where did you get all this?’ I had to keep telling everyone it was all Lowe’s – not only the products but the vision. Nobody could believe it,” Linehan said. “My best friend is also a store manager – he performed the wedding – and he reassured people, yes it was all from Lowe’s.”

In addition to serving as the backdrop for one of life’s biggest moments, the renovated backyard is there for Linehan and her husband to enjoy day after day.
She took the company’s DIFY (aka Do It For Yourself) mantra to heart.
“Now we have an awesome fire pit relaxation station in our backyard using all the materials from the ceremony,” Linehan said.
