Across the nation on Monday Jan. 16, people took time to volunteer on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service to honor the legacy of Dr. King.
Lowe’s associates at the Store Support Center in Mooresville, N.C. spent the afternoon building 1,000 STEAM kits through a partnership with Digi-Bridge to commemorate the work of Dr. King. The science, technology, engineering, arts, and math kits will be distributed to students by the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
Digi Bridge is one of our tech partners and we’ve had a long standing relationship with them. They’re focused on bridging the digital divide and creating opportunities for kids to get involved in STEAM. These STEAM kits will feature black inventors and will be used by kids when they visit the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture in Charlotte.
In Atlanta, Ga., Lowe’s associates volunteered at The King Center and helped with voter registration education, assembling care packages, and donation sorting.
Aside from volunteer events, Lowe’s proudly sponsored the 29th annual McCrorey YMCA MLK Holiday Celebration in Charlotte, N.C. The annual breakfast honors the legacy of Dr. King and investments from the event go on to provide youth and adults in Charlotte’s Northwest Corridor access to life-changing YMCA programming.
Lowe’s was also a Dream Sponsor for the Beloved Community Awards in Atlanta, Ga. on Jan. 14 as part of The King Center’s week-long holiday experience. The Beloved Community Awards recognizes national and international individuals and organizations that represent excellence in leadership and pursue social justice.
