OUR PEOPLE
The Lowe’s community begins with our more than 300,000 associates. We’re relentlessly focused on being a great place to work and fostering an inclusive work environment to empower our associates to be their best every day.
Dedication to our Associates
We value the unique perspectives and experiences of our associates and customers. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture that enables everyone who touches our business to contribute to our success. We believe a respectful and supportive environment leads to greater associate engagement, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, ability or sexual orientation.
We support our commitment to diversity and inclusion through a variety of initiatives and programs guided by the three pillars of our culture, diversity and inclusion strategy:
Talent
Build a workforce that understands our customers' needs and how best to meet them
Culture
Foster an inclusive culture that supports the customer and serves the community
Business
Provide better and more diverse services and solutions
Diversity drives better ideas, positive business results and a greater connection with the communities we serve. Supported by our leadership team and Board of Directors, Lowe's dedication to diversity and inclusion extends to every corner of our company. Some of our diversity and inclusion programs include associate-led Business Resource Groups (BRGs), partnerships with organizations such as the Executive Leadership Council and a focus on expanding our diverse supplier network. Lowe’s is committed to improving our culture, diversity and inclusion in everything we do. Our 2021 diversity report (also available in Spanish) gives insight to our journey and provides information on Lowe’s U.S. workforce demographics and pay gap analysis. You can also read our 2020 diversity report.
Our commitment to safety is reflected in our high standards and owned by leadership across the company. We continually work to ensure the safety of our associates, customers and suppliers with support and accountability at all levels.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we implemented additional safety efforts, including enhanced social distancing protocols, plexiglass shields at all points of sale, masks and gloves for all associates, and enhanced third-party cleaning shifts. These and other measures build upon our previous actions to support the health and well-being of associates and customers.
From power stock lifts to mobile loading platforms, we also deploy new tools, resources and equipment designed to keep employees safe. Our enhanced daily safety review and claims reporting system ensures we regularly identify and reduce risks.
Safety education is embedded into every aspect of joining Lowe's, including in associate onboarding, developmental e-learning, on-the-job training and through vendor policies. We keep our training library updated based on changes to our processes, equipment and expectations.
We believe strongly in supporting the health and well-being of our associates. Our Human Resources team makes program decisions based on the needs of our associates and their families, selecting health providers and programs by the quality and value of network, minimizing barriers to care and providing the best possible clinical outcomes.
Lowe’s provides various programs to stay well, from 17 onsite clinics for our corporate and supply chain associates to our benefits programs to support mental and emotional wellbeing. For those needing support for specific conditions, Lowe’s will pay the costs for services such as diabetes supplies and counseling, expert medical opinions, and COE programs for cardiac, joint, and spine surgeries. All regular associates are eligible for health and financial benefits, with variances between full- and part-time associates and between the U.S. and Canada, based on national law differences.
We strive to foster financial well-being for our Lowe’s associates as well. All regular full- and part-time U.S. associates may participate in our 401(k) plan and The Stock Purchase Program when they become eligible.
Our associates are our greatest strength. Lowe’s empowers our associates to pursue education and career development opportunities, knowing that confident, connected and resourceful associates support our business strategy.
Part of that employee development is education both on and off the job. Outside of Lowe's doors and in partnership with Guild Education, Lowe’s Track to the Trades program provides tuition reimbursement to Lowe’s associates that complete an apprentice certification in plumbing, electrical, HVAC or appliance repair.
Within our doors, our Learning and Development team works hard every day to make sure our associates feel confident helping customers find their solutions. We have onboarding for new associates, on the job training and a new center for learning, Lowe's University, that currently offers a leadership development program that builds skills and confidence for our store managers.
