As Florida communities continue to recover after Hurricane Ian, Lowe’s wanted to make sure residents had access to a free hot meal to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the holiday, Lowe’s stores in Port Charlotte and Fort Myers partnered with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief to hand out 1,000 individual Thanksgiving Meals at each location for free. The hot meal included chicken, green beans, stuffing with gravy, a slice of pumpkin or pecan pie, and a bottle of water. Residents lined up outside of Lowe’s stores where red vest associates and Southern Baptist Disaster relief volunteers served the meals.

Lowe’s district manager Tom Barringer said they had a great turnout and was happy they were able to give back to the community in this way.

“It’s been exhausting work over the last couple of months as we help restore the communities and this part is really uplifting,” Barringer said.

In October, Lowe’s committed $2 million dollars to help Florida communities recover from Hurricane Ian. Lowe’s stores in Cape Coral and Venice also hosted “bucket brigades.” Where community members could pick up Lowe’s buckets full of critical supplies like water, sponges, bug repellant, trash bags, googles, hand sanitizer and more. Each store handed out roughly 500 buckets of product.
