Over the past twenty years, Mackida Loveal & Trip Mentoring Outreach has helped hundreds of youth learn anger management skills, social skills, communication skills, independent life skills, and self-regulation strategies in addition to furthering their education and where needed, provided housing and employment services. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, Mackida will renovate their facility both inside and out.

With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center will upgrade their outdoor recreation areas to make them safer and more ADA accessible. Work will involve removing wood ground cover and adding rubberized surfacing to two existing play spaces, installing border edging and a new play structure will be purchased and installed.

Lighthouse Recovery Community Center

Amidst a critical housing crisis coupled with an opioid crisis, Lighthouse Recovery’s residences provide safe, affordable housing for those lacking resources or support networks. The Lowe’s Hometowns project includes both interior and exterior work including new energy efficient windows, siding, garage doors, landscaping, and bathroom updates as well as flooring and some kitchen work. These major upgrades would provide safe, affordable housing when it is needed most.

Huntington Children’s Museum

Huntington Children's Museum will create a STEAM-focused indoor learning space where exhibits and activities cater to children's specific interests and abilities. Updates to the outside of the museum include replacing exterior lights, stucco, exterior trim, doors, windows, paint and more. A resealed parking area will be added. Inside mechanical, electrical and HVAC services will all occur to get this museum up and running.

Glow Up Girl

Glow Up Girls Inc. provides both in-school and after-school programming for girls focused on the physical, emotional, and mental health skills needed to become strong, confident leaders in their communities. With the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, the “glow up” to this space would include replacing windows, doors, flooring, baseboards, remodeling the bathroom and a refreshed exterior.

Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis empowers girls to be confident, prepared for their futures and ready to take their place in the world. The organization currently operates in a historic building in need of physical repair so that participants, volunteers, and staff have a space that is safe, accessible, and conducive for program activities. New flooring, an entry area, windows with blinds and the addition of a zen break room will transform this space.

Gil Carter Initiative

The Gil Carter Initiative is focused on enhancing the development, dignity and quality of the lives of socioeconomically challenged children and young adults regardless of their race or religion. Through the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, their facility will receive updated HVAC, plumbing, ceiling tiles, painting, floors and more, allowing them to continue with their programming in areas of culinary arts, music, computer science, and agriculture.

Friends of Four Star Inc

The historic Friends of Four Star Theatre is being converted into a world class multi-use community arts venue. The theatre's main floor needs some essential enhancements to transform the experience of those who are visiting. Through the Lowe’s Hometowns grant, entrances will be improved, ceilings will be finished in the lobby and existing bathrooms, and lobby flooring will be installed.

Espacio Community Center

The Espacio Community Center, run by the North Shore Community Development Coalition, hosts classes and can be rented out by members of the community. Espacio needs an update including interior and outdoor furnishings, a fresh coat of paint, garden beds, and lighting. When complete, Espacio will have a functional and attractive indoor and outdoor facility that is flexible and accessible for all.

East Brunswick Youth Council

East Brunswick Youth Council focuses on improving teen mental wellness within the community. This project will create a safe space for teens to focus on their mental wellbeing. A backyard patio, fence and garden will be constructed outside for them to enjoy. A fresh coat of paint and a renovation of the kitchenette available to staff and youth are in the plan as well.
