The Wedington Volunteer Fire Department has serviced rural Washington County for 45 years. It is a place for volunteers to learn, relax and re-group after a call. It’s where the community gathers for elections, meetings and more. Installing new garage doors will allow for smoother responses, plus new paint and flooring to provide a much-needed face lift.

The Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department is working to create an ADA accessible and compliant business office. Electric, framing, removing garage doors, and adding windows would all transform this space. An additional benefit of the project will allow for a day room and training room for the firefighters in the vacated office space upstairs.

The Henderson Volunteer Fire Department kitchen remodel would be the first time the original kitchen has been updated since the 1960s. With new plumbing, electric, appliances, cabinets, countertops, lighting, flooring, and more this complete kitchen flip would be an important focal point for the small community of Henderson.

The Green Township Volunteer Fire Department will update the men’s and women’s bathrooms in the firehouse to not only make them ADA compliant, but repair fixtures and facilities that do not work. A demo of the current bathrooms would lead to bathrooms that are state and federal compliant for a long-term emergency facility. Energy Smart and Water Sense products will be central to the construction of this new space for volunteers.

The Galax Volunteer Fire Department has long educated school aged children on fire prevention. This took place in a camper built by Surrey Fire Concept but is unfortunately no longer functional. The Lowe’s Hometowns grant will enable a complete renovation of the camper, including structural changes, a new generator, wheels, linoleum, and carpet, so it can safely continue to serve as an educational resource for the community.

Dauntless Hook & Ladder Ambulance has seen a drastic decline in the number of volunteers willing to serve with their organization. The Lowe’s Hometown grant will allow for an overhaul of their facility, including new windows throughout the facility, new day and night rooms for volunteer crews and upgrades to their training room, so they can teach necessary skills to their newly recruited volunteers.

The Lowe’s Hometowns grant will be used to repair the damage that was incurred to the Anchorage 24-hour Police Department and Dispatch breakroom during a 2018 earthquake with a 7.1 magnitude. For the Anchorage Dispatchers who experienced this trauma themselves, but also went into action, the Dispatch Center will become a 24/7 haven as well as a central location for potlucks, holidays, birthdays and more.
