Series follows Fort Worth family’s journey as they prepare to move into a new home in time for the holidays
The first story in a three-part Open House series introduces the Rico family as they face the daily challenges of apartment living.
“Home for the holidays” will have a new meaning this year for 1,000 families, thanks to a partnership between Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity. Throughout the year, the two organizations are joining forces to meet their goal of building or repairing homes alongside 1,000 families, bringing each family the stability of owning a home by the end of 2016.
One of those families is the Ricos. Shelby Rico is a single mother of three living in a two-bedroom apartment in Fort Worth, Texas. “My son is very grateful. He’s like, ‘Mommy, they’re helping us! They’re helping us get our house,’ ” Shelby said. “They’re helping us change our life.”
