Lowe’s Home Team member and Bears quarterback Justin Fields is lending a helping hand to the homeless community in Atlanta, Georgia.
Clyde’s Kitchen, the dining space at Crossroads Community Ministries, provides warm meals, safety and respite from life on the streets and was chosen as one of the 100 impact projects for Lowe’s 100 Hometowns initiative.
Teaming up with Lowe’s, Fields – who is from Atlanta – helped renovate the kitchen and facility to include four offices for case management and support services, and a classroom for training and orientation. The upgraded facility can now serve up to 200 hungry men, women and children every day.
The nonprofit says more than 60% of those who come to the shelter for food are chronically homeless and Clyde’s Kitchen is often their first point of entry with Crossroads. The dining room is where case managers and service providers connect with the guests to assess basic needs and offer stabilization services like individual counseling, financial services and employment, housing and basic healthcare.
“Our community is one in which people band together to help our neighbors,” said Tony Johns, who nominated Clyde’s Kitchen for Lowe’s 100 Hometowns. “We are proud to call this city home and even more proud to be a part of the rich history, generous neighbors and diverse community that makes Atlanta so great. With hundreds of children and adults impacted by homelessness and poverty, Crossroads remains committed to partnering with our beloved city of Atlanta to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring, while breaking the chains of generational poverty that plague our community.”
This project is one of several collaborations between the 2021 Lowe’s Home Team and Lowe’s 100 Hometowns. 100 Hometowns is a Lowe’s initiative to celebrate its centennial year and after serving communities for 100 years, 100 projects will be completed across 36 U.S. states that rebuild areas reeling from natural disasters, repair critical housing, restore beloved community centers, revive green spaces and much more.
