Lowe's volunteers help a North Carolina neighborhood hit by a tornado

Dorothy Young was preparing dinner for her granddaughter and sister when she heard it.

“It sounded like a train was coming through our home,” she said. “We were all so scared”.

Sunday, April 15th, a tornado touched down in Greensboro, North Carolina leaving thousands of homeowners with significant damage to their homes and cars. Some lost their roofs; many large trees were toppled onto houses and windows were blown out or shattered.

On Wednesday, volunteers from local Lowe’s stores and First Response Team of America partnered to clean up debris, remove fallen trees, and even fix flower beds.  Following the clean up effort, volunteers passed out buckets with essential supplies.

“Thank you all for coming, I don’t know what we would have done.  I have my sister and my granddaughter who I take care of, I couldn’t possibly have done all this alone,” said Young.
