The journey to recovery for residents of eastern Kentucky will be long, but Lowe’s and its associates are continuing to find more ways to help in the days immediately following recent floods.

Last week, Lowe’s announced it will be donating $500,000 to support disaster relief efforts for associates, customer and communities directly impacted by the devastating floods.

This week, the Lowe’s Command Center worked to ship 200 totes full of disaster relief supplies to a store in Hazard, Kentucky. Local associates spent the day Tuesday delivering the totes to residents in their community, to help them begin their cleanup and recovery process.

Other support Lowe’s deployed to affected Kentucky communities:

  • 400 buckets of flood cleanup supplies (batteries, bottled water, trash bags, etc)
  • 90-person Emergency Response Team to support Hazard Lowe’s store while affected associates focus on their families
  • Tool Rental Disaster Response Trailer to Hazard Lowe’s starting on August 12
  • Mobile shower and laundry facilities for associates without power or water

To lend a helping hand to other communities in the Midwest, Lowe’s will host a drive-through bucket brigade Friday, August 12 in East St. Louis in front of City Hall. Starting at 10:30 a.m. while supplies last, about 20 Lowe’s associates from nearby stores will hand out more than 250 buckets filled with free cleaning and recovery supplies.

Lowe’s is also doubling its match commitment for contributions to the Lowe’s Employee Relief Fund, which provides financial assistance in times of crisis. Lowe’s will match $2 for every dollar an associate donates.
