Trees For Life
Mission Tomorrow – a nonprofit organization started by two teenage brothers with a goal to plant trees and positively impact the environment and improve the quality of life for area residents – wishes to replace trees that were lost and damaged as a result of the recent Texas winter storms.
Why It Matters
By planting and maintaining trees in the storm ravaged areas, Mission Tomorrow hopes to reduce erosion and pollution in waterways and mitigate the effects of flooding. The trees also provide health benefits for residents, especially children. Green environments have been shown to lead to strong academic performance.
The Impact
“I have lived in Irving for the majority of my life. I have seen my community grow as I grew as a person,” wrote project nominator and Mission Tomorrow co-founder Dhruv Nanda. “I remember when many areas in Irving were clear of any buildings, featuring only greenery. However, as I have grown up, the influx of corporations came by storm, leading to the destruction of multiple natural habitats. With it came a large influx of residents, which resulted in the building of numerous residential areas, further diminishing the number of trees and decreasing the air quality index of Irving. I felt that not only as an individual but as a member of my community I was obligated to help maintain everyone's goals and dreams regarding the environment of this great city."
To give back the amazing community and city that has led me to become the man I am today, it would be my honor to help in this small yet largely impactful way.
