Child Guidance Center restoration
An organization that provides accessible, high-quality mental health services to children and their families seeks to repair damages to its building sustained during a winter storm while also expanding their therapy space to help more clients.
Why It Matters
The Austin Child Guidance Center works with kids who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and ADHD; those who are acting out at home or school in response to situations beyond their control; and those who are survivors of crime – child abuse/neglect, suicide, homicide, kidnapping, etc. The center provides a continuum of care including therapy, psychological services and assessments, and psychiatric oversight. For families who may not have access to this type of quality care, ACGC provides a critical service to all children regardless of income, race, language, or their gender or sexual identity.
The Impact
“ACGC is an Austin original; one of the first non-profits established it the area,” wrote project nominator and ACGC Director of Grant Management Leah Piassick. “Our building has been in the same location for over 30 years serving as a beacon of hope for children and their families. To date, we have provided services to over 145,000 children and families throughout Central Texas area. My own daughter received psychological assessment services from ACGC at a time when she was struggling emotionally. ACGC provided us a welcoming space to talk with a children’s mental health specialist and receive valuable insights and information about resources.”
