Ted Phea Boys & Girls Club
The Ted Phea Boys & Girls Club in East Lubbock seeks to renovate its oldest facility. The club gives children a positive place to go every day after school and all summer long, and remodeling the library to add computers will help children ages 6 to 12 participate in the Stride Academy reading program, which will keep them reading on grade level or help them get caught up.
Why It Matters
BGCA strives to fill gaps, provide safe spaces and empower kids to imagine and achieve great futures. Stride Academy is an award-winning web-based program that engages school-aged youth in activities and adapts to student needs that are aligned to Common Core State Standards.
The Impact
Approximately 87% of BGCA of Lubbock members are from low-income families and 51% are from single-parent households. Additionally, 97% of club teens expect to graduate from high school and 74% volunteer in their community at least once a year.
