Salvation Army Miami shelter renovations and play area
A family shelter that provides housing for more than 250 people and more than 1 million meals annually is seeking to renovate its facility, including building a play area for children who are living in the shelter.
Why It Matters
Staff at the Miami Salvation Army are doing all they can to provide a safe, clean and healthy place for families. Case management is provided with a goal of helping families to become independent, and more importantly, free from the cycle of poverty. The Pathway of Hope program works with clients to establish a plan for the future and educate them about money management and housing. All of these services take place within the facility. By renovating the shelter, programs can expand and more families can receive much-needed assistance.
The Impact
“The facility is located in a very poor area of Miami,” wrote project nominator and Salvation Army shelter director of development Alicia Powell. “Overcoming generational poverty is top priority."
Teaching, mentoring and supporting our clients to achieve the skills needed to succeed and gain independence is critical.
