Refurbishment of men's shelter dorm
A Salvation Army chapter that provides shelter and resources that men need while they search for employment and permanent housing seeks to refurbish and repair its men’s dormitories, specifically the shower area where only one shower is functioning. The repairs will ensure clients have access to a clean, safe, and dignified space as they work to get back on their feet.
Why It Matters
Those staying in the shelter have access to a hot meal and hope. For many men, the shelter is the step up that they need in order to find employment, housing and self-esteem.
The Impact
“We operate one of the largest emergency shelters in West Texas,” wrote project nominator and Salvation Army captain Joshua McKain. “This is going to provide a more accommodating space for our less fortunate neighbors who are homeless. Our men’s dorm is always packed. The building has been here since 1986. It has experienced wear and tear and for a while, the building wasn’t properly maintained. We rely on grants to get things up to par. This is going to be such a great benefit. Everyone is absolutely thrilled. We’re blessed.”
