Rebuild the Paintsville Veterans Referral Center
A nonprofit veterans center that has been heavily damaged by flooding seeks assistance in completing restorations to the center so it can continue to provide vital outreach and programs aimed at helping veterans reintegrate into the community and thrive. The building also serves as an important meeting spot for area veterans.
Why It Matters
A series of winter floods resulted in extensive damage to furniture, electronics, HVAC, supplies, landscaping, and the structure. The community has come together to donate money, time and effort towards helping to restore the center, but there is still much to be done. With thousands of current and former service members living in and around Paintsville, the necessity of a veterans’ outreach point cannot be understated.
The Impact
"Many people are just trying to get by [in Paintsville], doing what they can to improve the local economy and see an area better situated for their children to take the helm,” wrote project nominator and VRC volunteer Stephanie Rodriguez. “Community resources like the Veterans Referral Center, Community Action Program, and others, provide assistance and hope to some who may not have had it."
Paintsville is a community of strong-willed people, and I couldn’t imagine calling any place else home.
