Moreau Community Center Teaching Kitchen
A community center seeks to renovate its dated and poor functioning kitchen so it can better provide food services for those in need, including seniors and disabled individuals.
Why It Matters
The project will allow the center to have a more professional, efficient, and sanitary kitchen — including a teaching kitchen — from which to launch new service programs that will enrich the community. Low-income families who rely on lots of canned and processed foods will have the opportunity to learn how to make those foods healthier, stretch their food budgets, and be the best they can be on as many fronts as possible.
The Impact
“As a queer youth in conservative, rural upstate New York, this Center has taught me that I have a voice that can and will be used and heard in the name of justice, progress, and compassion for others,” wrote project nominator Zac Perry-LaPointe, the director of marketing and outreach at Moreau Community Center. “I proudly advocate for all people and the professional exposure I have gained has helped me to grow in ways that make me more effective, compassionate, and authentic. The Moreau Community Center is a bright spot in our community that gives me hope."
Before I came on board and long after they've forgotten my name, this Center will be the lifeblood of the community - feeding, welcoming, nurturing community and wellness. It is a bright spot of hope no matter how challenging times in the area bring.
