Heroes Ridge at Raven Rock
A retreat center that serves wounded warriors/veterans experiencing PTSD, their families, and caregivers as they reintegrate into society is seeking assistance in modifying structures on its property to make them accessible for individuals with mobility disabilities so it can better serve the area’s veterans. Facility repairs and updates are also needed to better serve the veteran retreat guests.
Why It Matters
Being supportive of veterans is important to the local citizens. Heroes Ridge represents something that Sabillasville believes it does best: serving others. Support for this project will allow the benefits of Heroes Ridge to be made available to more veterans more quickly. Heroes Ridge gives veterans the opportunity to get away from everyday stresses.
Here, they can relax, breathe clean air, reconnect with nature and get dignified and loving support – maybe even get pampered a little. Here, they can find peace and healing to strengthen them as they continue facing their challenges.
The Impact
Sabillasville may well be the smallest community seeking help from Lowes 100 Hometowns. But despite its size, the community has a remarkable history of facilitating, hosting, and being employed by organizations dedicated to serving others in need. Lowe’s believes this 100 Hometowns project will greatly impact the lives of those who served our country. Our nation's veterans often have difficulties adapting to civilian life. Those challenges are compounded if there are wounds, visible or invisible. This program offers our nation's heroes a place and opportunity to relax and heal, either with others who understand what they are going through or on their own in a secluded beautiful area.
