Genesis Joy House Homeless Shelter
A housing facility for female veterans that provides transitional housing, career training, mental health counseling, life skills classes and education programs that put homeless service women back on the path to independence and self-sufficiency, seeks assistance in completing construction that will allow the organization to open its doors.
Why It Matters
Once open, this facility will be able to provide temporary housing for up to 14 homeless female veterans at a time. All residents will attend innovative programs to progress from homelessness to obtaining a full-time career and residence of their own in 90-120 days.
The Impact
“I have been making rounds in Warner Robins for years, searching for homeless individuals. When I see women who have served our country living in the woods or sleeping on broken and rotting mattresses in junkyards, it breaks my heart," wrote project nominator and Genesis Joy House executive director and founder Margaret Flowers.
I have had some homelessness in my family and have worked towards helping the homeless since I was 12 years old, so I have seen what it is really like for someone in that situation.
