Effie Yeaw Nature Center revitalization
A nature center that provides environmental, indigenous culture and nature education, as well as interactive experiences for students, seeks assistance in providing a facelift to the center so it can continue to serve the community and celebrate the natural and cultural resources in the area.
Why It Matters
The Effie Yeaw Nature Center sees nearly 200,000 people annually and has long been a staple of the local community. The 100-acre nature study area, resident native animal ambassadors, interactive museum and replica Nisenan Maidu village, along with several native plant gardens, study ponds, picnic areas, outdoor amphitheater, public art, playscape, classrooms and meeting spaces, provide countless opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds to experience nature in a way that excites curiosity and inspires investigation.
The Impact
The funding will not only be a springboard to visually enhance the regional nature center, but will create easier maintenance and green energy use. The ADA improvements will also make it more welcoming and accessible.
