Dvine Konektion Community Center
The Dvine Konektion Community Center provides a broad range of vital services and has seen a surge of residents needing support. The center wishes to repair and renovate its aging, damaged space so it can increase the number of people it’s able to serve.
Why It Matters
The center is looking to renovate and leverage space on all three floors of the building, which would double the number of people who can be helped each month. Roughly one in five residents in this community lives below the poverty line. Of those living in poverty, almost a quarter are children and another quarter are seniors. The support would enable them to expand capacity and assist those most vulnerable – families with children and the elderly. Beautifying the center would be an added bonus for those coming onsite for services.
The Impact
“Having served the West New York community for the past two decades, I would say that I have a deep personal connection with the location,” wrote Dvine Konektion president and founder Tania Fuentes. “My late husband and I were given a great deal on the building because we promised the previous owner that we would do ‘something good’ for the community. The building was uninhabitable when we first received it and we literally had to re-build and restore it ourselves. We did not have a lot of money, but we did not let that stop us! We hammered, painted, broke down walls and with our own hands began to construct our dream. Others caught our vision for a better tomorrow, and chipped in to help us buy carpeting, furniture and other needed equipment. My husband passed away unexpectedly a few years after we acquired the building, so this location represents many things to me – it truly has symbolized the best and worst that life can bring your way."
It serves as a reminder that we have a choice and we must always choose to live life to the fullest, to be the best version of ourselves and to be a blessing to others while we have the chance.
