Downtown Marshall Pocket Park
A community seeks assistance in creating and revitalizing a green space in the heart of a city so it can reopen and invite the community back into a comfortable space where members can enjoy a vast array of events that will create lasting memories.
Why It Matters
When the Perkins Building in downtown Marshall was demolished in 2019 due to damage, the location was turned into an open space. But now, with the revitalization of downtown a priority for the city, the space needs rejuvenating. The City of Marshall hopes to turn the location into a beautiful green space that will host community events, bring joy and invite the community back into a space where they feel comfortable. It will welcome members from the community and also attract visitors from near and far.
The Impact
“Although not a native Marshallite, this building was in such despair when I first became City Manager, I knew something had to be done to turn this place into a space that could bring back the vibrancy to Downtown Marshall,” said project nominator Mark Rohr. “As a father, I recognize the importance of having a place in your community in which you can take your children to enjoy while also providing a great atmosphere for teens and adults alike. I want to be able to provide that place for our citizens in Marshall, and there is no better place for that than the Perkins Building space.”
The building space will be rejuvenated back to life to allow it to once more host community events and invite locals and visitors to a space where they can enjoy the welcoming environment that our downtown district provides.
