The Connecting Grounds Community Outreach facility revitalization
An organization that provides aid to the homeless seeks assistance in revitalizing, improving, and making critical repairs to its network of facilities so it can accommodate those in need and provide essential services for a vulnerable population in fully functioning buildings.
Why It Matters
People in Springfield who are experiencing homelessness do not deserve to be overlooked or discarded by the community. They deserve to have their basic needs met and to feel dignified in the process. Providing better facilities for The Connecting Grounds can help accomplish this. The unsheltered in the community should be able to walk into a building designed to help them and know that they are valued, loved and respected by their peers.
The Impact
“My dad grew up incredibly poor in California after his father, my grandfather, was killed by a drunk driver. His personal experience with poverty drove him to commit his life to serving the poor. Through him I have developed a compassion and conviction for the disadvantaged and marginalized. I alone do not have the resources to meet TCG’s needs, but with Lowes I believe incredible change is possible," wrote project nominator Lindsay Donaldson-Kring.
If we serve the unsheltered in dilapidated buildings, what are we saying about them? On the other hand, if we could serve these individuals in fully operational, high-quality facilities, we are sending a very different message.
