Cleveland Hope Lodge renovation
A lodge that offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for treatment requires traveling to the area seeks assistance in expanding and renovating its space.
Why It Matters
The lodge serves as a home away from home. Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay allows guests to focus on getting better and provides the access to care they so desperately need. After 25 successful years, the need for expansion and renovation is urgent, as the lodge has become outdated and is showing the effects of constant use, thus impacting the quality of the experience.
The Impact
“Cleveland is truly a healthcare hub in Ohio – experiencing significant growth over the years,” wrote Kelly Jamerson of the American Cancer Society. “As more and more individuals travel to the area for treatment, access to care has become a challenge in the community. The American Cancer Society works to ensure that ALL individuals have an equitable opportunity to find, prevent, treat, and survive cancer. The Cleveland Hope Lodge directly addresses this challenge by removing a barrier by providing free lodging for cancer patients and their families. The renovation and expansion will allow us to address this growing need and serve even more individuals in the community."
Our nominator, Kathleen Bond, has experienced the challenges of traveling away from home for treatment. Her own experience inspired her to make a difference for others through the Cleveland Hope Lodge.
