City of Pine Bluff Opportunity House
The city of Pine Bluff wishes to turn an unused school building into a men’s only homeless shelter that will help keep men the streets and focused on getting help to become self-sufficient.
Why It Matters
In a city that has 14% of its male population living homeless, the shelter will address a critical need and support a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness. Currently, Pine Bluff does not have a shelter in place for males, but a women’s shelter does exist.
The Impact
“The idea of a local shelter for men is a big deal. Getting something tangible, letting people see it, touch it, starts to tell a story about the ambitions of this community," wrote project nominator Tiffany Copeland. "The Shelter is designed to assist homeless individuals such as victims of domestic violence, youth, people with mental illness, and veterans. This Shelter can also be used to aid people who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. We have acquired an old, abandoned school that we believe will be the perfect place to renovate and call home for many male individuals seeking assistance to get back on their feet.”
We are a small town that works together to benefit whatever problem comes about. We believe in unity. We embrace one another with compassion and love.
