CARES food pantry upgrade
A food pantry housed in a former church that has worked within the donated building’s layout constraints seeks assistance in remodeling, refreshing and organizing the space to make it more functional.
Why It Matters
The project will help the CARES organization broaden its efforts and offerings and better serve the community through innovative programs such as the self-service pantry.
The Impact
“Growing up, I lost my mother at a very young age, and this former church that is now our pantry was a safe place for me to go when I needed friends and support,” wrote project nominator and CARES executive director Todd Lipa. “My father would receive food from this church, and it was not always a proud moment for my brothers and sisters and I. I was very lucky as a young man to have homes I could go to when I needed support. I stopped looking at this as a challenge many years ago and started seeing it as a life lesson. Without these life lessons, I would not be blessed to have done the work I have dedicated my life to. Our Campus of Hope is in my old neighborhood and now I feel we are the campus where families can turn to when they feel lost or out of hope. We have a vision for this project as a whole and that is to make this a campus where everyone is welcome, no matter your age. When a person walks onto our campus they will be given respect and dignity.”
