Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta outdoor classroom build
This Boys & Girls Club is running out of space for its programming. The busy club seeks assistance in creating outdoor classrooms that will provide more space for children and teachers to spread out, increasing capacity and providing a fresh-air area for them to learn and work.
Why It Matters
The creative solution will ensure the club can continue to provide critical programming to the maximum number of children, so no one is turned away.
The Impact
The families we serve love their children and work hard for their families,” wrote project nominator Kristin Hanna, vice president of development and marketing at the Boys & Girls Club. “Over half the youth we serve come from single-parent homes and all qualify for our program based on family income and financial need. As they go to work 12 hour shifts at the hospital, overnight shifts at our local industry locations, or evenings at local restaurants, they know that their children are safe, loved and learning here at our Boys & Girls Club. While attending the Club, children complete their homework, play hard in our gym and outside, are fed, and are poured into by adults that love them and want them to reach their potential."
Like many rural towns, poverty is an everyday battle. However, the Club comes alongside these families to help them overcome these challenges.
