Why It Matters
According to BGCA, one out of four kids leave school with no place to go. Every summer, 43 million kids lack access to summer learning programs. This means that millions of our nation’s youth risk being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. However, research shows that what happens during the out-of-school time can have a significant impact on reversing the negative trends facing youth, including dropout rates, obesity and violence. And that’s what these clubs are all about.
The Impact
Country music star Kane Brown, who is from Chattanooga and once worked at the local Lowe’s partnered with the company to bring this project to life. “Just being able to come full circle and partner with Lowe’s for their 100 Hometowns campaign — to go back to my hometown in Chattanooga where I used to work at a Lowe’s and to be able to give back to the community is just such an amazing feeling,” Brown told Forbes. “The Boys and Girls Club has such a place in my heart, and thanks to Lowe’s and their 100 Hometowns project we were able to really revitalize their facility.”
