Auburn Street neighborhood improvement
A facility that provides housing for homeless and poverty-level families seeks assistance in completing major repairs to its buildings.
Why It Matters
The combination of mechanical and exterior facade improvements will simultaneously enhance the quality of life for the homeless residents. In the past 25 years, thousands of under-privileged families have passed through the doors of Trinity House’s Auburn Street properties. The eight families currently living there have experienced homelessness and found a safe place to live with Trinity House. Their mission is to provide a warm, comfortable place to live and raise their children.
The Impact
“When I started working with Trinity House, I had no idea the issues facing homeless families,” wrote project nominator Jan Jann, the executive director of Trinity House Inc. “I have come to realize that the biggest challenges these families have is finding affordable, safe, reliable housing, and responsible landlords. The families we serve lack the resources and wherewithal to compete for the limited affordable housing options in our community. Many of our families don't receive government housing support. Trinity House was formed in response to a 1987 plea from the City of Rockford to become involved in neighborhood revitalization efforts. I started working with Trinity House in 2013 and for the last eight years, I have been working diligently on not only providing affordable housing, but also on being a responsible landlord and working toward building improvements and neighborhood development."
This project is located on a busy thoroughfare in an area of Rockford that needs improvement. This project will provide our clients with a better place to live and thrive and it would give this block new life and vitality.
